It was fun to see this order of service built round showing off, all together, a range of songs for worship …

… singing songs that may be perfectly OK in the context of a balanced diet of modern church music, but get a bit much when you stick them all together into a glorious melange of very little genuine meaning.

Go and have a look at the order of service. And note the implied guidance in the first bit of the quote above: it’s about context and collocation. The difficulty is that sometimes the music or the popularity (or former popularity) gets in the way. We need to balance the affective and the cognitive elements of worship and indeed the kinds of ‘affective’.
